My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Warm Like Winter, Machines on Blast, SML8
When: Sun., Aug. 16, 6:30 p.m. 2015
Though industrial (the music genre) has charmingly retro cachet now, concerned parents were up in arms over the tongue-in-cheek satanic symbolism, drug references and overt BDSM-tinged sexuality back in the early ’90s. Though My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult no longer features simulated blowjobs on mock-crucified models in their stage show, there’s still a visceral kick out of seeing a band that Tipper Gore would hate. The band has retained their original core duo of Groovie Mann and Buzz McCoy, as well as the sleazy swagger of classic tunes like “A Daisy Chain 4 Satan” and “Sex on Wheels.” If you want to relive your druggy teenage years but don’t want to drive all the way to Sanford and back, opening act Warm Like Winter is reviving the Murder Bus for this show. You’ll get picked up at Wally’s on Mills Avenue, get to drink keg beer on the ride over and have a sober driver to bring you back to Wally’s after the show. For maximum ’90s nostalgia, call your parents to pick you up from there and remind them of that time they said you could call them for a ride whenever, no questions asked. – Thaddeus McCollum
