Not censored
This is in regard to the cover story “Censored” `Sept. 13`. The third item, AFRICOM, was covered rather extensively by Thomas P.M. Barnett for Esquire magazine in its July 2007 issue in an article titled “The Americans Have Landed.” Esquire may not be considered news media, but it is well-known media and did cover the story. Nevertheless, I do think it’s very regrettable that the news media does such an incredibly poor job of covering important news such as mentioned in the cover story.

Cassadaga north
The desire to sell off the land is what triggers the loss of “stock ownership” and the creation of “association fees” in the 1990 timeframe `“Paradise lost,” Sept. 6`. If you look up the case Marilyn J. Smith and others filed against the camp, you will find the camp settled with her and she was allowed to sell her home. This lawsuit would not have been necessary but people like those that serve on the board today continue the harassing practices that changed the face of the camp in the 1990.
Unfortunately, like with any organized religion, group or association, there are bad apples. Good news is that Cassadaga, N.Y., is thriving.

Wrong program
In the review of The 11th Hour in Orlando Weekly `Sept. 13`, the second sentence mentions PowerPoint in reference to An Inconvenient Truth. You may already know this (or have heard by now) and I realize it would be lost on most of your readers but Al Gore actually used Keynote, not PowerPoint.

Too many stars
I can’t believe you gave this “film” `The 11th Hour, Sept. 13` three stars. No one, and I mean no one will be able to actually sit through it. But really, the last 2 and one-half stars you gave are for “content.”

Soulless thievery
Your review `of 3:10 to Yuma, Film, Sept. 6` is insulting and stupid. If you were actually paid to “write” it, that would probably be a better example of “soulless thievery.” Not a great film, but one that deserves more consideration than you seem capable of offering.

Separately, let me add that I really like your publication. It’s hard-hitting, with an edge; we need more media outlets like yours.

Out of whack
I am wondering why the press seems to be taking scant, if any, notice that gas prices are going down while oil prices are going up (a new, all-time record high in August)? Are our leaders of both parties and oil companies manipulating prices?
The American game of keeping gas as cheap as possible as long as possible is going to prove a fool’s paradise. Why? Oil is nonrenewable, the oil industry is one of the most polluting of all, we have 2 percent of the world’s oil reserves and about 26 percent of demand, most of those reserves are under the lands of people who hate us, the climate is changing and seems to be setting in motion truly dangerous feedbacks.
What we are doing in the Middle East is seen by many in the area as a resource grab. It is the latest in a long history of interference in lands that have oil by Western big business, shortly followed by Western big militaries.
