If there was any way to move between classes in the United States of America, the ladder has long since been pulled up. What we've been left with over the last four decades of wealth concentration is a shallow pool of American aristocrats, producing copies of copies of the countries original oligarchs.
And like the old, hermetically sealed aristocracies of Europe, the lack of diversity has led to hideous deformity and sickness. We've jumped from blue-bloods like Prescott Bush to his fake cowboy son and then even further to the grotesque offspring of slumlords in the Trumps. The tastes among these most-recent generations of megawealth are as aesthetically pleasing as a Habsburg chin, tending toward flashy, plastic cars and big, dead animals.
But that's not always the case. Every once in a while, money can buy taste. Case in point: this Florida mansion recently purchased by Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump for $24 million.
The massive Miami manse is part of a gated community on an island in Biscayne Bay, but they bought quite a bit more than location. The 6-bed, 9-bath home sits between a beautifully landscaped front lawn with a reflecting pool and a backyard, palm tree-lined oasis. The interior is done up in shades of classic white and imposing wood. It is, as you might expect for the price, a nice house.
