Interlude of art, culture, cuisine 


The concept of "food as art" is not new; ask any chef who labors over the presentation of a dish. But the connection between art and food takes a fresh twist in a series of stimulating gourmet socials at Orlando Museum of Art (2416 N. Mills Ave.).

Dubbed "Spanish Interlude," the first "tasting" is 7:30 p.m.-9 p.m., Monday, Nov. 1. Guests can indulge in sangría and a buffet of tapas, followed by a discussion on two influential Spanish artists: Diego Velazquez, a master of shadow and light; and Francisco de Goya, whose free brushwork was a forerunner of Impressionism.

The series continues Dec. 6 with "French Impressionist: French Wines and Cheeses," and Jan. 3 with "Sail to the South Seas with Gaugin: Rum Punch and Tropical Fruits." Admission to the trio of happenings is $49, $75 for couples. To sign up, call 896-4231, ext. 262.
