Hood in the clear

Police have dropped charges against Mayor Glenda Hood stemming from a March 13 altercation with a Bruce Gordy supporter, Orlando police said. Ezell Harris of Lake Mann Estates accused Hood of grabbing his arm after he questioned her about a flier accusing Gordy, her opponent in the recent mayoral election, of being a racist.

Police call the case "unfounded." "There's nothing to show that the mayor did anything wrong," Sgt. Orlando Rolon says.

Harris says the department should have allowed the state's attorneys office to investigate the case to prevent any appearance of conflict of interest.

"Even if they thought [the charges] were frivolous," says Harris, "they should have recused themselves."

Harris says he won't pursue the issue. "For the sake of this, I forgive [the mayor]," Harris says. "If she felt I was a threat, I apologize."
