Hebronix’s debut will disappoint Yuck fans

Hebronix – Unreal
ATP Recordings
★★ (out of 5 stars)

To bail on one of the most exciting and naturally brilliant bands to emerge in years right as it rockets, well, the reasons must be huge, right? Unfortunately, not much of that has manifested in this wandering, anemic debut by former Yuck frontman Daniel Blumberg. This project deals in off-kilter, dream-headed, lightly corroded indie rock carried chiefly by a lax mien. Yuck, too, is slack in style, but sharp as shit in execution. Although “Garden” and “The Plan” suggest promise, this undercooked work suffers seriously from a lack of focus and editing. And as
one of the year’s most anticipated underground debuts, it’s a disappointment.
