Halloween treats for grown-up kids

While Halloween nirvana once meant a pillowcase full of candy after a long night's haul, there are pumpkin concoctions cropping up around town that offer more evolved ways to indulge in holiday treats.

How about a pumpkin "shmear"? That's a pumpkin bagel spread with pumpkin-pie cream cheese ($1.79) at Einstein Bros. Bagels. Or buy the flavored cream cheese by the 8-ounce tub ($2.75) to give cheesecake recipes pumpkin oomph.

Barnie's Coffee & Tea Co. is brewing pumpkin-spice coffee, infused with allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg ($10.99/pound).

Then there's pumpkin ice cream at Marble Slab Creamery (2614 E. Colonial Drive; 895-0250). A seven-ounce scoop runs $2.70, but ask them to mash it up with chocolate chips or sprinkles (49 cents) for a messy, delicious, orange-and-black mud-pie effect.
