FOX chicken?

News flash: Ridership estimates are guesswork. The proposed 180 mph "bullet train" slated to connect Tampa, Orlando and Miami was dealt a blow last week by the state Transportation Commission after a report said that estimates of 8 million riders a year were overly optimistic.

Meanwhile, the General Accounting Office, Congress' investigative arm, opened its own review of the project, called the Florida Overland Express, or "FOX." The railway had been projected to pay for itself by the year 2020, based on those high ridership estimates. State legislators must decide early next year whether to spend at least $70 million a year in state funds to keep the train running.
