Susuru
The tourist sector needs a few good Japanese joints, and this "retro-themed izakaya" by the same folks who run Jade Sushi & New Asian in College Park is one we city folk should be justifiably jealous of. They take their yakitori just as seriously as their takoyaki and, yeah, they got ramen. (Open; 8548 Palm Parkway; susuruorl.com)

Taco Bus
It may have started as a taqueria inside a school bus, but this Tampa-based chain has since expanded to 12 locations (mainly on the Gulf Coast), though the restaurant-inside-a-school-bus motif lives on. Choose your, umm, vehicle (taco, torta, burrito etc.), meats and garnishes, and you're off to the races. Vegan options are plentiful. (Opening spring; 11325 University Blvd.; taco-bus.com)

Tori Tori
Domu's Sonny Nguyen and Bento's Johnny Tung have set the tongues of the city's foodie contingent a-wagging with their Japanese pub-izakaya project, but construction delays related to converting the space to a restaurant means those tongues will wag for a little while longer. (Opening late spring; 720 N. Mills Ave.; toritoripub.com)

Tre Bambine Modern Italian Bacaro
Orlando's first bàcaro – that is, a bar-eatery serving wee Venetian-style finger foods and snacks (think toothpicked eats) – should be a popular hang for the downtown set and lovers of Italian food alike. The waterfront view of Lake Eola can only help. Opening February; 407 E. Central Blvd.; trebambine.com)

Twisted Root Burger Co.
Ever since it was featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, the Texas-based burger joint has gone on an expansion tear, with the first Florida outpost coming to the Grove at Winter Park. Of note are their exotic meat burgers of elk, ostrich, rabbit, camel, venison, boar and duck. (Opening spring; 4270 Aloma Ave., Winter Park; twistedrootburgerco.com)

Veranda
The city's first Romanian restaurant (as far as we know) just opened in the plaza across from the Florida Mall serving a bevy of Eastern European delights, from traditional Romanian carnaciori (sausages) and mamaliga (a porridge of yellow maize flour) to braided breads and medovik (Russian honey cake). Plenty of Timisoreana beer to go around too. (Open; 1700 W. Sand Lake Road; verandaorlando.com)

Wally's Mills Avenue Liquors
New owner Minesh Patel purchased the well-worn, six-decades-old landmark watering hole and will give it some much-needed TLC without compromising the dive bar's deep-down drunken soul. Two notable changes: Smoking will be a no-no, but credit cards will be a yes-yes. (Opening March; 1001 N. Mills Ave.; facebook.com/wallysonmills)

Yeoman's Cask & Lion
Fancy a little Hockney with your hammy? The Tampa-based chain is one of a slew of new restaurants to open at the Sunset Walk entertainment complex at Margaritaville Resort. Elevated Brit pub grub is served amid a modern interior rife with eclectic pop art. (Opening spring; 3251 Margaritaville Blvd., Kissimmee; yeomanscaskandlion.com)

Z Asian Vietnamese Kitchen
On a strip with no shortage of Vietnamese restaurants, Z Asian will serve "authentic Vietnamese food you can drink beer to" as well as Chinese and Thai dishes (Vietnamese chicken wings, pho, lo mein, orange beef, pad thai, curries and the like). Bonus: They'll serve dishes you don't typically see around town, namely slow-cooked duck soup, seafood soup and wonton soup. (Opening March; 1830 E. Colonial Drive; no website)
