Eat between the pages at library

Empty souls who wander into the Orlando Public Library may not be hungering purely for the written word. Indeed, there are other flavorful options to be found near the bookstacks on the first floor, inside Choices Cafe (101 E. Central Blvd., 407-246-7003).

Opening at 9 a.m., Choices offers early birds the opportunity to dunk fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts into a selection of gourmet coffees. Menu mainstays include a healthy but tempting assortment of smoothies ($2.50), plus sandwiches, soups and salads (nothing over $5) with sophisticated twists, like spinach and tomato-basil tortillas that can be subbed for any sandwich (available as well by the half).

Sweet tooths can be bribed/ rewarded with frozen yogurt and ice cream until Choices closes at 4 p.m. And there are a dozen or so tables for quiet dining. But watch those overdue fines, or they'll bust you at the register (just kidding).
