Designer labels hit soda fashion

To find a unique experience by accident is a wonderful thing. From the sign of the Bauer Brewing Company (223 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park; 407-644-9991), I expected to find a wide variety of beers.

And the left side of the store is indeed loaded with more than 100 brews from Sri Lanka, Scotland and England, along with microsuds by Flying Dog, Rogue, Bert Grant, Shipyard and more.

But the right side is a G-rated carbonated fantasy with dozens of designer sodas. There's a fluorescent Alien Ale Neptune Orange, Apple Beer from Utah, Cheerwine from North Carolina (tastes like Cherry Coke should have), and two Skeleteen's entries -- Red Leninade ("Get hammered and sickled!") and The Drink (ginger, lemon, sage, clove and a picture of Dead Elvis on the label). They deliver beer or soda "basket bouquets," and there's 10 percent off any six bottles.
