It was a particularly slow news week at the city's giant wooden chopping board, one lit up by toothy smiles (hello, giggle fit from commissioner Tony Ortiz), greeting-card developments (commissioner Robert Stuart said he might have to "duck out early" due to the imminent birth of his first granddaughter) and seasonal wordplay (commissioner Sam Ings: "Egg-cellent!"). Even the expectedly dour invocation from Dr. David Swanson of the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando — something involving the commissioners' "lonely jobs" in these times of crisis — was followed by notice from the mayor for Swanson's participation in "Dancing With the Pastors." Situational comedy all around, then, replete with a drop of the R-bomb by commissioner Daisy Lynum: "Retarded," she gaffed.
