Corner shop calls to jerk lovers

Don't be insulted if I send you to a jerk center. It's not an insult, really, I'm doing you a favor.

The little corner shop at 5921 Forest City Road (at Edgewater Drive; 407-298-5866) has hosted a wings place and several barbecue joints in the past. Now it houses Walkerswood Jerk Center & Restaurant, serving Jamaican goodies like curried goat, cow foot and that singular Island cuisine, jerk chicken.

"Walkerswood" is a famous jerk sauce recipe first developed by runaway slaves in Jamaica, and the combination of "secret" seasonings is used to full advantage at Walkerswood. The chicken is tender and flavorful all the way through, with a smoky aftertaste and tantalizing dark color; the heat of Scotch Bonnet peppers is more warm and earthy than painful, the way jerk should be.

Be kind to your family, and take a little jerk back with you.
