Capsula, Bengali 600, DJ Spreadsheets

Bilbao-by-way-of-Buenos Aires garage rock band Capsula have something of an obsession with the proto punk and glam of the late ’60s and early ’70s. They tend to dress like the Velvet Underground and even released a cover of that band’s “Run Run Run” in 2007. They named themselves after a line in David Bowie’s “Space Oddity,” then recorded a song-for-song cover album of the seminal The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. All that homagery paid off in 2013, though, when they got to record their 10th studio album, Solar Secrets, with longtime Bowie producer-collaborator Tony Visconti. Now touring on their live album, Dead or Alive, Capsula is out to show us exactly why they constantly get compared to bands like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Sonic Youth, the Who and the Cramps, often over the course of the same song. Come for the dark, driving rhythms; stay for the reverb-soaked acid guitar space jams.
