Attorney who represented Jim Greer catches heat from Florida Bar

Attorney Damon Chase was reprimanded for swearing at a client’s sister in an email

It’s not like lawyers in general are high up on anyone’s ethics expectations list, but what about lawyers who swish around in bed with former Republican kingpin Jim Greer, and even manage him into a plea deal that meant a year-and-a-half in prison and $125,000 in damages? Last week, Greer’s former attorney Damon Chase, from Lake Mary (of course), caught heat from the Florida Bar Board of Governors for, among other things, telling a client’s sister “Fuck you” in an email, the Palm Beach Post reports. As a result, Chase will now have to kiss up in the Bar’s Ethics School – it’s like finishing school for lawyers! – and send apology notes to all who he offended. Also, bang out the erasers?

Anyway, in the report released by the Bar last week, the board treated Chase like any nasty 12-year-old should be treated, saying that he, “recognizes that his conduct has damaged the public’s perception of lawyers. (He also) has fully accepted responsibility for the misconduct and is not blaming others for what occurred. He has learned from this experience and has taken steps to ensure that he does not engage in similar misconduct in the future, such as educating himself as it relates to stress management and dealing with difficult personalities.”

Well, he did deal with Jim Greer.

Read more about Jim Greer, former chair of the Republican Party of Florida! There was all that foot-dragging about his trial. There's the time he told everybody that the Republican Party of Florida was racist. There was the time  he pled guilty to grand theft charges. And if you have a lot of time to kill, there's also the transcript of his deposition.
