Orlando selected as one of 10 cities to host flights to Havana

Orlando is one of 10 American cities tentatively approved for commercial airline flights to Havana, Cuba, starting as early as this fall. 

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Thursday that eight U.S. airlines, including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines and United Airlines, had been chosen out of the dozen that applied. Aside from Orlando, flights will also be scheduled from Havana to Atlanta, Charlotte, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York City Tampa. 

Orlando International Airport says on Twitter that JetBlue is currently the only carrier that will travel from Orlando to Havana. Under the arrangement, there can be a total of 90 daily roundtrips between the two countries, according to Department of Transportation.
