Artists are like plumbers (wait, hear me out): If you want something done right, you should consult an expert. And so, if your pumpkin-carving skills are roughly at the level of this:
Wouldn't you rather throw a few bucks to a good charity, and take home something like this instead?
Our local chapter of AIGA, the professional association for designers, hosts their first edition of GUTS, AIGA's annual pumpkin-carving competition/fundraiser/party, at Orlando Brewing this Saturday.
Teams of local artists and design professionals will carve live on the spot, creating the kind of doorstep decorations few mere mortals are lucky enough to display. There'll also be food trucks, kids' activities, a photo booth, a silent auction and hello, it's at Orlando Brewing, BEER.
It's free to get in (carving teams paid $50 apiece to compete), and proceeds from the team fees and the pumpkin auction will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Orlando AIGA hopes to raise at least $6,000, enough to grant a single kid's wish. See more at gutsorlando.com.
