Carlos Pino, an unbreakable Winter Haven resident, survived a horrific car crash Tuesday evening, in which his car hit a tree and split in two.

According to the Winter Haven Police Department, the 20 year-old was wearing his seatbelt and traveling west along Cypress Gardens Blvd on Sept. 20 at approximately 6:48 p.m., when he lost control of his 1986 Nissan 300ZX.

From WHPD:

Pino was headed westbound when he started to slide on the wet roadways as he negotiated the curve. Pino over-corrected losing control of the vehicle and he started to skid sideways. Ultimately, the vehicle struck a curb and left the roadway.

The vehicle continued traveling onto the shoulder where it impacted a tree with the driver’s side front wheel and quarter panel. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to split in two with the front engine compartment on one side of the tree and the vehicle’s cab coming to a rest on the opposite side of the tree. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

Pino was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Health with non-life threatening injuries. An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
