Review - What's Wrong With This Picture?

One of the most prolific composers of the rock era continues with a collection that incorporates the influences of a career that spans more than four decades. Blues, soul and folk are all represented, but it's (unsurprisingly) jazz that dominates Van Morrison's Blue Note debut. There is a brief nod to Morrison's Celtic heritage with "Little Village," a bluesy number with a flute and mandolin tucked away behind strings and horns. He is at his most poetic here as he walks with his lover as it's "raining in the forest/ just enough to magnetize the leaves." And though this "new" direction may seem surprising to some fans, a quick review of his discography (if that's possible) will reveal all of these influences in his previous recordings. Contrary to the title, there's nothing wrong with this picture at all.
