Review - Laser Beam Next Door

Artist: The Silos

Listening to The Silos is often like listening to two different bands. While they've been appreciated for their brand of quirky roots rock, their albums have also always featured glossy American garage rock that has often missed the mark. This split has prevented The Silos from ever producing a singularly great album, but it has made for some interesting moments.

Such is the case with the flawed but fun "Laser." While the hard rockers come off sounding like Foo Fighters demos, rootsier numbers like "Title of This Song" bring out lead singer Walter Salas-Humara's organic melodies and irresistible sincerity. Add two requisite Spanish-language tunes and you've got another good, but not great, Silos album.
