Rosie Thomas' sophomore effort offers a nod to Joni Mitchell, and the influence, although understated, is evident in these 11 well-crafted and introspective songs. The delivery is a bit muted, however, and her soft vocals sometimes seem to almost fade into the background. It's not clear if that's intentional or if it's just a lack of confidence, but fortunately the white noise doesn't overshadow a nice effort. She steps it up a bit on "One More Day," a number that hints at a stronger voice. Thomas has an alter ego in the form of stand-up comedienne Sheila that has garnered much attention. Yet the comparison may be wearing thin for the singer-songwriter in Rosie: "I play music / that's what I do" she sings on "I Play Music," and there's enough here to know that's no joke.
