Harriett Lake is known throughout Central Florida not just for her generous philanthropy, but also for her over-the-top fashion sense. (Think Auntie Mame crossed with Iris Apfel, with just a dash of Carrie Donovan.) This month she combines the two with a closet cleanout to benefit Orlando Ballet and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Mind you, when we say closet, we’re actually talking about a Longwood warehouse stuffed to brimming with hats, scarves, jewelry, shoes and ensembles with labels from Chanel, Yves St. Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, Burberry and Costco. (No snob she, Lake told local TV news anchor Jackie Brockington that in a fire, she’d grab her treasured “$19 Costco basic black Audrey Hepburn dress.”) The opening VIP Night is a grand ticketed affair ($75) with a runway show, live auction and first dibs on the goodies. The sale continues with opening day Nov. 7 ($10 at the door) and then runs 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 8-21 daily except Mondays.
