The Palm Beach Post is reporting tonight that Gov. Rick Scott is not only a big, old joke right here in his home state of Florida – he's also killing them in Spain, where he's become fodder for Spanish TV stations that are ridiculing him for meeting Spain's King Juan Carlos and bringing up the one thing the two have in common. They have both traveled to Botswana and came back with funny elephant stories! You see, Scott and his wife went on a safari and they were chased by elephants, and it was hilarious! Carlos, on the other hand, went to Botswana to kill them, fell out of a bed, broke his hip and then became the subject of scorn and scrutiny! Hilarious!
The 74-year-old king's April trip to Africa became known only after he injured his hip when he fell out of bed during the safari. The expensive junket was immediately attacked as insensitive to the people of his nation, which is facing a major financial crisis.The elephant hunting also caused outrage among animal activists, who demanded that Juan Carlos resign his position as honorary president of World Wildlife Fund Spain, a group opposes the hunting of threatened or endangered species.
Juan Carlos later called the trip a "mistake."
Controversy about the king's April trip had been dying down, but on Wednesday, Scott opened his brief audience with the king by saying that he had ridden elephants but never tried to shoot them. Scott and his wife, Ann, then continued to ask the king about his trip and talk about their own trip to Botswana.
