Sweatshop woes or cheaper clothes

In a cabal of Washington arrogance and Wall Street avarice, the will of the people was stiffed when special trade privileges were recently extended to China -- a move that will further exploit millions of impoverished and even imprisoned Chinese laborers, while it further undermines America’s middle class.;;One of the most outrageous aspects of giving China privileged trade status is that it supports that country’s military and police repression of the Chinese people, since so many of the products coming out of China are made by businesses controlled by the People’s Liberation Army and the People’s Armed Police. From toys to towels, from fish to firearms, billions-of-dollars worth of goods are produced by these businesses under contract to some of the largest American brand-names and billions more are wholesaled to America’s largest chain stores. The sales of these goods return profits to the PLA and the PAP. In turn, these profits finance their continued rule over the people of China -- a rule that’s based on human oppression, misery and murder.;; Why should we put up with this? Sure, Wall Street corporations profit by getting dirt-cheap, Made-in-China goods . . . but why should we workaday Americans allow the blood of Tienanmen Square to flow into Main Street, USA?;;Well, a new report from the union representing thousands of U.S. retail workers gives you and me the weapon we need to "Kick the PLA out of the USA." This report reveals that such corporations as Schwinn, Nike, and K mart are buying products directly from PLA-controlled companies, and that stores ranging in price from Nordstrom to Wal-Mart are carrying PLA-made goods on their shelves and racks. If we don’t buy these blood-stained products, U.S. companies will stop buying from the brutal thugs ruling China. To get a free copy of this report, call (202) 737-7200.
