Planting ideas for fresh herbs

If eating healthy is on your wish list for personal paradigm shifts during the new year (you wouldn't make anything as routine as a resolution, would you?), help is on the way through upcoming classes at Harry P. Leu Gardens (1920 N. Forest Ave.).

Any good chef knows that home-grown herbs and organic garden produce can turn a good meal into a great one, whether it be Italian, Indian or Cal-Mex. Fresh herbs are not as hard to cultivate as you might think. Find out more at The Herb Society's free monthly meetings in the Garden House. The next one is 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3; call (407) 897-3333.

Later in the month, Leu hosts a "Garden Entrees" cooking class (9:30 a.m.-noon Jan. 21; $15 per person) featuring meatless dishes made with ingredients you can grow at home. More garden-based cooking classes are scheduled; for registration information, call (407) 246-3621.
