Brokeback Mountain arrives in Orlando bearing the imprimatur of the Florida Film Critics Circle, which has lavished the film with four of the major accolades in its year-end awards. Brokeback won in the categories of Best Picture, Best Director (Ang Lee), Best Screenplay (Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana) and Best Cinematography (Rodrigo Prieto).
Fifteen print critics – including Orlando Weekly's Steve Schneider – voted in the FFCC's annual awards. Other winners named were: Best Actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote); Best Actress, Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line); Best Supporting Actor, Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man); Best Supporting Actress, Amy Adams (Junebug); Best Animated Feature, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit; Best Documentary, Grizzly Man; and Best Foreign-Language Film, Kung Fu Hustle.
Terrence Howard, the actor seen in Hustle & Flow and Crash, won the group's Pauline Kael Breakout Award for new and emerging talent, while Gregory von Hausch, executive director of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, received the Golden Orange for Outstanding Contribution to Film.
