They never tell you what you really want to know at freshman orientation. Sure, you find out where to go to buy your books, how to find your classrooms, where the health center is and a bunch of other things that, if you really needed to, you could probably find out for yourself. What they don’t tell you is how to have the best college experience in a decidedly non-college town.
Aside from the stuff that’s right outside your door – Knight’s Plaza, for you UCF students and the closes-up-quicker-than-a-prom-date-with-a-promise-ring at 11 p.m. Park Avenue for Rollins College types – there is no one obvious gathering spot where your kind likes to eat, drink, shop, congregate. This is Central Florida after all, and sprawl is kind of our middle name.
In the following pages, we’ve compiled some helpful information on finding your way and making yourself at home. From trivia about your campus to suggestions for fine dining in the dorm room to phone numbers for the nearest party buses that’ll take your drunk ass to the club and back – everything you need to keep your semester from sucking is inside. And if you can’t find it in here, you can certainly find it in our regular weekly issues (they come out every Thursday, you can find them in the red boxes on street corners around town or in racks at your favorite bars and restaurants, and they’re free) or online at orlandoweekly.com.
