Local food news: Wings and Brew, Taste of Winter Park, Big Wheel takes a break, Cabaret & Cabernet and more

Orlando Brewing is the site of a Local Folkus event featuring local purveyors, dubbed Purr-fectly Good Wings and Brew. Seely’s Ark chicken wings will be basted in three different hot sauces fashioned by Fat Cat Foods; suds will be supplied by the brewery. It’s 6-9 p.m. April 18, and tickets are, ahem, a poultry $16.

The Winter Park Farmers Market plays host to the 28th annual Taste of Winter Park April 17 from 5-8 p.m., featuring almost 50 of the area’s finest restaurants and food vendors. For $40 ($45 at the door), you too can dine on comestibles created by the likes of Luma on Park, Cask & Larder, Cocina 214, Prato, 4 Rivers and the Winter Park Fish Co., to name but a few. Also taking part are the folks from East End Market, who announced last week that Wild Ocean Seafood will set up shop in their soon-to-open neighborhood market in Audubon Park.

More on the locavore front: $75 tickets are still available for April 7’s Dinner at the Farm, with Cress Restaurant’s Hari Pulapaka whipping up a family-style meal amid Tomazin Farms’ bucolic surroundings. A taste of what’s planned: lentil soup, ceviche, jerk chicken, head-on shrimp and carrot cake. The event runs from 4-7 p.m. Call 386-734-3740. And in case you hadn’t heard, Big Wheel Provisions chef Tony Adams will take a summer-long hiatus from his food truck duties to sling hash up in Nantucket, where the summers are decidedly less stormy. Adams plans a return to Orlando in the fall.

A few months back, we brought you news of an impending extreme makeover of the Festival Bay Mall. Well, word comes that the new Artegon Orlando will house a grand bazaar, a 45,000-square-foot indoor farmers market and a Hofbräuhaus – a 20,000-square-foot German beer hall.

BRIEFLY:
Jeremiah’s Italian Ice has opened in the Waterford Lakes Town Center, behind the Starbucks … The fourth annual Cabaret & Cabernet takes place April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at UCF’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management. Tickets are $65 … Casselberry’s Art & Music in the Park, 6-9 p.m. April 12, will also feature the Food Truck Bazaar … Love the logo of Sanford’s sixth annual Brews Around the Zoo event (6 p.m. April 13) – an inebriated lizard with a beer in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. Drunk animals: awesome.
