  • Crafted Block and Brew

    2417 Hiawassee Road South

    407-601-6887

Equal parts craft beer joint, sports bar and restaurant, Crafted endeavors to be something for everyone with mixed results. The modern pub-grub fare is highlighted by a decent selection of messy burgers fashioned from a mix of short rib, brisket and chuck. The cottage pie with steak tips is also worth considering, but be wary of overdressed Cajun snapper and insipid barbecue-rubbed grilled wings. There’s a nice selection of craft brews available on tap or by the bottle.

  • Enzian Theater

1300 S. Orlando Ave., Maitland Winter Park Area

    407-629-0054

Food and film: It's an odd combination, but it works, even if there are a few interruptions while watching the movie. Order staples like buttered popcorn, soft pretzels or chocolate-chip cookies, or get fancy with creative salads, sandwiches and pizzas. The al fresco Eden bar is a good place to grab a cocktail before the show.

  • Fish on Fire

    7937 Daetwyler Drive South

    (407) 812-6881

If you’re into fishing and boating around the Conway chain of lakes, you’re sure to make friends here – a lot of the patrons are Belle Isle and Conway residents who appreciate this place for its completely unpretentious, laid-back Florida fish camp kind of feel.
  • Highball & Harvest

Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes, 4012 Central Florida Parkway I-Drive/Universal

    407-393-4422

The Ritz-Carlton’s farm-to-table resto caters to the city’s food-conscious millennials with Southern-inspired dishes employing local, farm-fresh ingredients. While some flavor and texture combinations need to be worked on (blackened grouper with an incompatible hominy ragout, for example), you’ll mostly find competently executed plates of comfort food issuing from Mark Jeffers’ kitchen. You won’t go wrong with a starter of duck and andouille gumbo, followed by an outstanding skirt steak, capped with sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Don’t miss ham-hock-infused boiled peanuts.

    407-270-4688

Mamak brings a semblance of Malaysia’s food-stall culture to Mills 50 with plenty of pan-Asian noodle soups, wok-fired delicacies and small plates. From beef bulgogi and seasoned cod in black bean sauce to char kway teow and kari mee, the dishes here are exemplary and thoroughly gratifying. Get a plate of stir-fried green beans to nosh on throughout your meal. To end, sweet ice kacang is a cold comfort.

It’s a sophisticated space with a nifty cork floor and a deep front porch. Their flights are reasonably priced and somewhat of a novelty, since much of the wine is served on tap. Knowledgeable guides will help you explore their locally bottled, sustainable wine. • Ra Sushi

    9101 International Drive I-Drive/Universal

    407-454-5600

Trendy sushi joint is a magnet for the uninitiated, so those looking for a slightly more authentic sushi experience need look elsewhere. While flavor fizzles in such dishes as “Ra”-ckin Shrimp and “Ra”-llipops, striped-bass nigiri and octopus sashimi shine. The cocktail crowd can feast on sushi and drink specials weekdays from 4-7 p.m.

  • Stardust Video and Coffee

1842 E. Winter Park Road Audubon Park

    407-623-3393

Stardust started life as a video rental place that served coffee and over the years has morphed to serve the changing desires of the community. Among its many functions (work and study spot, café, live music venue, market host) and despite its ramshackle air, the ’dust is prized by anyone looking for a quality buzz. The bartenders of the Slanted and Enchanted Bar (in the big room) are given free rein to come up with inventive craft cocktails; the Scotch Bar (in the smaller room) stocks exquisite bottles; and the bottled beer and cider selection is choice. For many, it’s a home away from home.

  • Wing Shack

    4650 E. Michigan St. South

    407-381-4798

Wing Shack is a quintessential American sports bar. It’s local, it’s reasonably friendly and it’s designed with the sports fan in mind: Whether you’re at a table or sitting at the bar, you can see a TV from pretty much any vantage point. When football season is on, this place is hoppin’ on game nights. It’s a place where people gather to watch the game, eat bar food and down pitchers of inexpensive beer.
