World's first Bitcoin marriage to take place at Walt Disney World

According to a press release posted to the Bitnation blog, the first-of-its-kind Bitcoin wedding will take place at Walt Disney World on Oct. 5 during the Coins in the Kingdom Bitcoin conference at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista.

Entrepreneur David Mondrus of RedboxJewels.com, and an advisor to Bitnation, will marry Joyce Bayo and the two will register their marriage through the Bitnation's "blockchain," a permanent public ledger upon which all Bitnation transactions are encrypted and recorded.

Mondrus was quoted by the Bitnation blog as saying that, "like the blockchain, our love and marriage are forever, and that our relationship is not defined by governments and church. So enshrining our commitment to each other in the blockchain in front of our friends is very dear to us."

The blog suggests that "blockchain marriages" are ideal for people whose concept of marriage doesn't fit the norm – same-sex couples, polyamorous families, etc. It also suggests that people who marry via the blockchain enjoy all of the privileges of traditional marriage – wills, joint bank accounts, joint property ownership – all registered on the blockchain via your Bitcoin wallet.

What does a Bitcoin wedding look like? We have no idea, but we can tell you what a Bitcoin engagement ring looks like. The BTCRing is a wearable QR code ring that you can design yourself, and it's also registered on the blockchain.
