Winter Park Police Chief Michael Deal was arrested on domestic violence charges on Wednesday evening.

He is currently being held at the Seminole County jail with out bond on charges of battery. The city has placed him on administrative leave, announcing Division Chief Pam Marcum will act as the interim head of the department.

According to an arrest report obtained by Orlando Weekly, Deal's wife said that she and Deal were in an argument over "infidelity and integrity issues in [their] marriage." Their two daughters were present.

Arresting deputy Mathew Rice arrived on scene in Sanford at around 6:30 p.m.  In his report, he wrote that Deal attempted to leave the home after the argument escalated. In the process, Deal reportedly pushed his wife away from him. Both daughters agreed with this version of events.

The report also shares Deal's recollection saying he "attempted to get around" his wife but "never laid a hand on her."

Deal has been chief of Winter Park's PD since 2016, when he left a similar position at the top of the police department in Atlantic Beach. Deal landed that North Florida job after the then-chief resigned after being arrested. Prior to that stint he was a deputy chief in Altamonte Springs.
