UCF suspends fraternity after pledge was 'Smirnoff Iced'

The Beta Theta Pi chapter at University of Central Florida has been suspended after a mother complained her son was forced to drink a giant bottle of Smirnoff Ice, an act that is often referred to as "getting Iced."

The chapter is accused of hazing and providing alcohol to minor after the mother contacted the fraternity’s national organization saying her son was dropped from consideration after he failed to chug a bottle of Smirnoff reports the Orlando Sentinel. 

"Getting Iced," or "Bros Icing Bros" was a semi-popular meme from 2010, where a person is surprised with a Smirnoff Ice, usually in an unexpected place, and is forced to chug the whole thing while kneeling. According to the official rules, the bro must drink the Ice and cannot refuse. But the bro can counter with what's called an "Ice block," which is when another Smirnoff Ice is revealed and thus forces the original assailant to chug both Ices. This is the "ultimate Ice insult."

However, according to the Sentinel, the mother says her son was forced to chug a larger than normal bottle of Smirnoff Ice, which is new and dangerous territory in the world of getting "iced."

The incident happened back in November and the university has scheduled a Feb. 16 hearing for Beta Theta Pi.

Last year, the Lambda Theta Phi and Phi Delta Theta were also suspended for hazing.
