The Orlando Sentinel reports that the properties the project needs in Central Florida are mostly in Osceola County. The pipeline would "come through the Four Corners area of northwestern Osceola County, dip south of Walt Disney World property, cross Interstate 4 near Celebration and connect with a hub of pipelines just west of Reunion Resort Golf Course," according to the Sentinel.
The 500-mile proposed pipeline is the joint project of Spectra Energy Corp, Duke Energy and NextEra Energy, Inc., which owns FPL. The owners of the pipeline say on their website that they plan to have it in service by May 2017.
"Additional pipeline infrastructure will also benefit the Southeast region of the United States by making available additional supplies and new energy infrastructure to support other regional power generators and the growing demand for clean-burning natural gas," the website says. "Sabal Trail will increase energy diversity, security and reliability to these Southeast markets."
The pipeline is not without controversy, with opponents citing health and safety concerns.
