The onePULSE Foundation will hold a town hall Feb. 21 to discuss gun violence in the Central Florida community and in the country.

This Friday, Feb. 12, will mark the 20 months that have passed since the mass shooting at the gay nightclub Pulse on June 12, 2016. Almost two years ago, a deranged gunman walked into the club during "Latin Night" and began a massacre that ended with 49 people dead and at least 68 injured.

The onePULSE Foundation, which was founded by Pulse owner Barbara Poma, will be hosting the gun violence forum on Feb. 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Orlando Repertory Theater at 1001 E. Princeton St., according to a news release.

A panel at the town hall will include the following speakers: Georges C. Benjamin, the executive director of the American Public Health Association; Patricia Thompson, a retired Special Agent Inspector; Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America; and Thomas Gabor, a criminologist, sociologist and author of "Confronting Gun Violence in America." The organization says panelists will focus on holistic approaches to stem the tide of gun violence, like focusing on mental health awareness, community action and changing legislation.

"With U.S. gun-related deaths since 1968 surpassing the number of American lives lost in all wars since the American Revolution – and with a mass shooting in America every nine out of 10 days, on average – the conversation is urgent," the onePULSE Foundation said in a statement.

Admission to the event is free. Find tickets here.
