Police Beat

Jan. 19

(2010-30926) 5:45 p.m.: It was a peaceful evening with beer at the Ambassador Hotel on West Colonial Drive, until one man jumped his acquaintance and stole his .45-caliber pistol.

(2010-31191) 8:30 p.m.: A woman walking through Parc Vista apartments on Pinto Lane said a man dragged her behind a pool shed, muttering his intent to rape her; but he took off when a car approached, and she escaped with a bruised arm.

Jan. 20

(2010-32040) 9:05 a.m.: Someone broke through the door lock on State Rep. Darren Soto's office on South Semoran Boulevard, hitting a spot that lacked steel bars, and took a computer.

(2010-32706) 4:30 p.m.: Somebody pried open the front door of a condo in the 5300 block of Burning Tree Drive and took $6,775 in jewelry, a computer, a digital camera and a pet cat.

(2010-32931) 6 p.m.: Police said they watched for months as a guy sold CDs and DVDs from a minivan on the corner of Orange Center Boulevard and Tampa Avenue. They even bought a few, and an MPAA rep verified they were counterfeit. So they arrested one man and seized 3,500 discs, some computers and the minivan.

Jan. 21

(2010-33423) 12:30 a.m.: They called it a bomb threat, but the caller to the Hyatt Place Hotel on Forbes Place (who actually reached a reservation center in Nebraska) said everyone in the place would die. True enough, but we'll have to wait a few decades.

Jan. 22

(2010-35899) 7 a.m.: Cops were alerted that copper had vanished from six air conditioners in the 3300 block of Bartlett Boulevard.

(OCSO) 2:06 p.m.: Police are still looking for the guy who fired several shots at a fight involving students outside Agape Christian Academy on Hiawassee Road. One bullet wounded a teenager who was trying to separate the fighters, and police arrested the shooting victim on an unrelated warrant for "throwing a deadly missile."

(2010-36457) 6:56 p.m.: A guy arrested at the South Orange Blossom Trail exit of I-4 and charged with cocaine and pot possession lost his 2005 Toyota Highlander to the state.

(2010-36382) 7:30 p.m.: Aggressive burglars broke the deadbolts on three apartments in the 6000 block of Bent Pine Drive, and made off with laptops and jewelry.

(2010-36550) 7:58 p.m.: A woman was walking north on Orange Blossom Trail near Clarcona Ocoee Road when four guys came up from behind, knocked her down and took her purse.

(2010-36651) 9:10 p.m.: Three teenagers grabbed $785 in shoes from Foot Locker on East Colonial Drive and ran. They were arrested; should have taken faster shoes.

Jan. 23

(2010-37663) 7 a.m.: Somebody stood on a stack of wooden pallets to climb over the fence at an AT&T storage area on Stanhome Way. They took six stepladders, which should make the next job easier.

Jan. 24

(2010-39066) 2:41 a.m.: Corner of South Kirkman Road and Raleigh Street. "I arrested the defendant for DUI. She got mad and kicked me. I charged her for that too."

(2010-39648) 4:40 p.m.: A woman shopping for wedding rings in the Mall at Millenia got suspicious about a guy standing close to her. On surveillance video, she saw him filming up her dress whenever she bent over a counter, using a cell phone camera in a shopping bag. He was arrested and charged with voyeurism and "loitering or prowling."

(2010-40066) 10:15 p.m.: When residents answered the door at an apartment in the 5100 block of Millenia Boulevard, three men pushed in, two waving guns. They left with two TVs, a laptop and a whole bunch of gaming stuff.

Jan. 26

(2010-41823) 12:20 a.m.: The owner of Suite B Lounge on East Central Boulevard was stabbed in the left leg as he tried to break up a fight.

(2010-42351) 8 a.m.: Somebody got into the maintenance sheds at Caribbean Key Apartments on Cason Cove Drive and stole three washer-dryer sets, four refrigerators and some tools.

(2010-42559) 11:23 a.m.: A timid and unwary burglar pried open a sliding door in the 1700 block of Virginia Drive and strolled through the house, then spotted the owner upstairs. "The suspect stood startled in front of the victim for a moment," then ran for his truck and was last seen driving in reverse down Altaloma Avenue.
