A petition asking Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer for stricter gun regulations in Orlando currently has almost 38k signatures, just 12k shy of its 50k goal.

Orlando resident and activist Dylan Wolstencroft started the Change.org petition and referred to the recent shooting involving singer Christina Grimmie and the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub, as main the reasons for requesting tighter weapons regulations.

"Signing this petition will be an indication to lawmakers that enough is enough," Wolstencroft said. "We need stricter weapon regulation, and this is the first step."

Wolstencroft says that it is possible for almost anyone in Florida to purchase and be in possession of a civilian rifle, such as the AR-15 which was used in the Pulse shooting.

"These weapons have absolutely no place in an urban environment like Orlando," Wolstencroft said. "They are completely inappropriate for any and all circumstances in our city, and frankly, in our state as a whole."

He went on to say that Mayor Buddy Dyer "has the voice necessary to put legitimate pressure" to influence Congress representatives on the issue.

The mayor wasn't the only one this petition will be delivered to, Representatives Alan Grayson and Daniel Webster, as well as District Commissioners Jim Gray and Patty Sheehan were among the others listed.
