A royally pissed-off Orlando Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith appeared on The Opposition with Jordan Klepper Monday night to talk about the fight for gun reform legislation in Tallahassee after the Parkland high school shooting.
"I'm fucking pissed off," Smith told Laura Grey in a segment that was bleeped.
The Democratic state representative was angry about his bill banning the possession and sale of assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition magazines, which Florida House lawmakers declined to hear. In the gallery above them, student survivors of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School watched with tears in their eyes. House lawmakers, though, did manage to pass a resolution declaring pornography a public health risk.
"Weren't they doing these kids a favor – showing them how the gun debate works in America, which is you don't have it?" Grey asked Smith.
"In a sick, twisted way – yeah," Smith responded. "They were showing them, 'Hey, after Sandy Hook, we didn't give a fuck. After Pulse, we actually gave even less fucks than we gave before.' And after Parkland, Republican NRA-loving lawmakers still don't give a fuck."
"We're in a fuck deficit right now," Grey said. "We just don't have any more fucks to give."
Grey also interviewed students from the group of thousands who protested at the Capitol in front of the Florida Legislature last week for gun control reforms.
