Nudists battling for a place on Playalinda Beach plan to distribute more than 1,000 small American flags to beach visitors on July 4. The flags will be given to visitors who agree with the nudists that authorities should cease arrests and pressure tactics that threaten to end the longstanding tradition of clothing-optional sunbathing north of the beach crossover at the north end of the federal beach in Brevard County.
Supporters will be asked to stick the flags in the sand next to their stuff, although authorities have prohibited nudists from sticking signs in the ground during their protests. "I want to see if they'll restrict the U.S. flag on the beach on Independence Day," says Frank Cervasio, president of Central Florida Naturists.
