Mourning for Ivanhood

Readers express their displeasure with renderings for new Ivanhoe Village development project

Mourning for Ivanhood

Depressingly typical of the city of Orlando: Forever suppressing the organic growth of its own neighborhoods, and all the charm and character that come with them (“Photos of Ivanhoe Village development project,” Oct. 23, In their place come big-box developments and outsized condos that pretend to add a bit of personality to their surroundings, but serve merely to hasten the transformation of this city into Everytown, USA.

So sad to see. Definitely does not keep the integrity of the area. Such a shame to see an up-and-coming artistic area get squashed out by large developers who seemingly have no clue, or probably don’t care about local charm and what that can do for a community. I really hope this does not come to pass.

Pretty much universal around Orlando and many other places: Development is a dirty word. Any “concern for integrity of neighborhood” by developers is just lip service. The almighty dollar is their only concern. When politicians are also in developers’ pockets, it’s a never-ending battle. Ditto Winter Park, also constantly under siege.
