Look out, drivers! If you’re not a vigilant and attentive person (which, honestly, few of us are), paying special attention to pedestrians (those people you see through the windshield who are not driving cars – you've seen them, right?) you might wind up with a $164 ticket and three points on your license. Officers dressed like civilians will be crossing specific traffic-heavy intersections and handing out tickets to cars that forget people have the right of way. (Word to the unwise: People have the right of way, BTW.)
What a novel concept, police enforcing traffic and safety laws in a city widely known to be one of the most dangerous for pedestrians (with 281,340 traffic crashes in 2012)!
But only for a couple hours, and before noon (when we all know traffic gets really heavy.) Sigh. The irony of setting aside specific days and times for law enforcement is not lost on us.
Today's times have already passed, but we thought we might warn you when and where to watch out for walkers tomorrow:
Thursday, June 5
- 7:30 – 8:30 am: Virginia Drive and Dinky Line (urban trail)
- 9:00-10:00am: Conway Road and Hargill Drive
