Starting this year, getting an energy-efficient home just got a little easier.

Orlando residents can now get lower interest loans to revamp their home into a clean-energy dream with help from the Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF) and the Orlando Utilities Commission, according to Bungalower.

In January, SELF expanded into Orlando with the help of the city. Based on residents’ income, OUC can subsidize or lower interest rates, and it can help finance about 80 percent of the cost if you make under a certain amount.

SELF is a Florida nonprofit “whose mission is to provide energy, expertise and favorable financing to underserved residents, small businesses and communities,” its website says. The group’s goals include community and economic development, enhanced quality of life and clean energy alternatives.
