Group opposes Trader Joe's location in Dr. Phillips


Apparently, not everyone is excited about having a Trader Joe's in their neck of the woods. A group calling themselves 'Help us save our Dr. Phillips community!' visited the Orange County Commission meeting on Tuesday to voice their displeasure with the rezoning of the land that the store is hoping to occupy. It's currently inhabited by the River of Life Church. The group is concerned about increased traffic around the proposed site, which is in close proximity to residential neighborhoods. The group has started an online petition, urging Orange County Mayor Theresa Jacobs to vote against the commercial zoning change.

This isn't the only online petition regarding the Dr. Phillips Trader Joe's. The other petition wholly supports the proposed location, but there's a catch. The petition was started by Unicorp National Developments, Inc., which just happens to be the company that wants to redevelop the land. If these petitions are any indication, though, the ayes have it. There are 1,171 signatures supporting the rezoning, while the opposing petition has only 232 signatures.
