Orange County activist Linda Stewart has decided to jump into the political arena. Most recently Stewart has served as spokeswoman for neighbors trying to preserve the site of Fort Gatlin, probably the area's first white settlement, from plans to turn it into another condo development. She also has been a key mover behind the push to have the Orange County Commission rewrite impact-fee ordinances to require developers of million-dollar projects to pay their full share.
Now, Stewart has filed to run against incumbent District 4 Commissioner Clarence Hoenstein, as well as Mary Wilson and Juan Bruno. Although this immediately makes her a politician, Stewart insists she will "make it my life's work not to be called a politician." The lure of government? "It's a lot easier to get things done from the inside."
