Thursday, Sept. 22 – Peter Bjorn and John
If there’s one thing the Swedes do exactly right, it’s affordable furniture. If there’s two things, it’s precise pop production, and Stockholm trio Peter Bjorn and John are magicians in the studio. It’s a gift that brought them fame a few years back when their breakthrough, whistle-driven single, “Young Folks,” made them stars. Since then, their deft ability to conjure catchy hooks and pleasant enough instrumentation has served as a kind of follow-up buffer, attracting collaborators as diverse as 88 Keys and rapper Drake. But the attractive ambience only goes so far, and their subsequent albums – Seaside Rock, Living Thing and this year’s Gimme Some – have failed to recapture the lightning. Still, settling for good, not great, is not the worst problem for a band doomed to battle one-hit-wonder status. – Justin Strout (8 p.m. at the Plaza Live, 425 N.
