Rotation: What local artists are listening to

This week: Shadow Pearson of the Actomatics

“This is hard. I listen to a lot of music. My summer album mix included Bruce Daigrepont, the Tragically Hip, Five Eight, Joe Walsh (yep) and the band to which I am most faithful these days, Los Lobos. On 2010’s Tin Can Trust, the ‘Wolves’ are still patrolling their landscape. Masculine and provocative. Damaged goods and secret passageways. Dave Hidalgo has a monstrous relationship with his guitar, and he weaves through these tracks like a shaman. This band is smoking from the same pipe. I think the confidence and moxie the character in the title song feels about his power sums it up: ‘Oh darling, I can’t buy you those gold rings and things / But honey, I can give you one thing a man can bring.’ Oh, my. Yes, you can.”

(Local rockers the Actomatics play the DeLand Original Music Festival 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. They are currently mixing their second album.)
