What local artists are listening to

Whit Evans

”I will forever have Van Dyke Parks' 1968 album Song Cycle twirling in my head. The album glitters and evokes so much intense imagery of a place that seems so tangible and fruitful. Lately, Cardiacs' Sing to God has enlightened me. The album somehow makes perfect sense in all its madness and stimulates my brain to a state of clarity. Then there's Loveless by My Bloody Valentine and the fact that there are two different remastered versions available now that I have been geeking out over. The album has carried me through a whole decade and it's never lost its spark or sincerity. Lastly, there is John Maus, of whom I've been a devoted fan since the release of his first album in 2006, Songs. Yes, I will admit I've been listening to his songs at least once a week for six years!”
