WorkNameSort: The Radiators
The Radiators, New Orleans' most durable rock-rooted band, go the way of the groove for their self-titled 12th album, another appealing set of music steeped in rock & roll, blues, country and Crescent City funk, this time produced by Grammy-winning knobs man Jim Gaines (Santana's "Supernatural"). Singer-keyboardist Ed Volker and his four bandmates, still together after 23 years and continuing to expand their loyal "fishhead" fan base, interlock impressively, offering a loose, limber approach reminiscent of a cross between the Grateful Dead and Little Feat. Pick hits: The ambling, Neville Brothers-ish "Deep in My Voodoo," the chunky "Bom-Bom-Du-Dao," spiced with stinging slide guitar and Theresa Andersson's blues-mama backing vocals, and the creep-crawling "Crazy Mona." Infectious stuff.
