Review - Radical Beauty Concept

Artist: Nick Phillip

Miles away from the limited constraints of the dance floor, "Radical Beauty Concept" is a serious electronic listening experience. Produced by Nick Philip, this mix CD -- featuring various artists -- emphasizes spaced-out arrangements and trip-hop/drum & bass treatments, making it a perfect backdrop for a dream, nightmare or motion picture. So it comes as no surprise that Journeyman's liquid track, "50cc (Pt. 2)," was used as the soundtrack for the digital film short "Radical Beauty Concept." Philip -- apparently sans turntables -- favors a computer mix to produce a dreamy atmosphere with a proliferation of samples cohesively binding the tracks together.

By the time the ambient jungle of PMF's "Hypnotising" envelopes the listener, you can practically feel the weightlessness of outer space. "Radical Beauty" is a journey that begs to be taken -- a head/space-trip that will have you gripping the wheel as you exit the Milky Way.
