Review - ICU Session One

Kimball Collins maintains a steady presence in house music via constant DJing, a stream of singles, remix work and continuous-mix compilations. "ICU Session One," his latest mix CD, contains the European house and trance sound that Collins is known for while also exhibiting his artistic and fun DJ style.

As the CD begins, a soulful vocal snippet from the Fathers of Sound's "Water" blends with the beats of a three-song set of lysergic trance that segues into an eponymously titled old-school house favorite by the Age of Love. Collins even drops in two fine slabs of his own, "New Life" and "Sonic Bliss," a collaboration with DJ Icey. A few of the 12 tracks border on Euro-cheese (a problem inherent in this genre), but this is the stuff that Collins' fans respond to quite well.

"ICU Session One" is one more piece of evidence to secure Collins a chapter in the history book of house DJs.
