After a near-decade of existence, Sweden's Nasum have come quite close to perfecting their purely assaultive take on grindcore. Built upon a solid foundation -- and with a healthy dose of low-end inertia -- the trio strip away all the unnecessary embellishments of the genre and focus purely on delivering high-velocity metal that's as classic-sounding as it is progressive. Bassist Jesper Liveršd and drummer Anders Jakobson are the motor that drives this group, as their fluidly effective rhythm section provides just the right amount of propulsion and flexibility to keep the vocals and guitars of leader Mieszko Talarczyk on the right path. Tracks like "Time To Discharge" weave through multiple tempo changes and attacks with blistering effectiveness, while others, like the scream-fest of "Drop Dead," are just straightforward ragers.
